Michael served in the U.S. Army in the Chemical Corps for three years at Ft. McClellan, Al where he worked in the Health Physics Office.  After his service, he worked for Amersham Searle as a Production Chemist.  He moved to California in 1983 to work for the U.S. Navy at the Mare Island Shipyard where he was a Radiological Control Technician and later became a Supervisory Radiological Control Technician.  He served in this capacity for eight years and then transferred to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) where he worked as a Health Physicist.  He worked for DOE for 20 years and served as the Manager for the Radiological Assistance Program (RAP) in Region 7 for the last 15 years and retired in 2011.

He served on the Board of Directors for the Northern Illinois University Alumni Association from 1975 to 1985.  He also served 11 years on the Board of Directors for the Masonic Homes of California.  He just completed his two years as Chairman of the Board of Governors for Shriners Childrens Northern California, in 2024.  He is currently serving his last year on the Board of Governors.  He is the Right Worthy Grand Sentinel, General Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and a Past Grand Patron in California (2006).
