Charles spent most of his life in two careers, often simultaneously:  school administration (Superintendent of Schools in West Virginia and Pennsylvania) and church professional (Minister of Music and Director of Christian Education in West Virginia and North Carolina.) He has a doctorate in Educational Administration from Nova Southeastern University in Florida.

A Past Grand Patron of West Virginia, he served as Worthy Grand Organist 2015-2018. He was honored to be Worthy Grand Installing organist for three wonderful PMWGMs.  He  continues serving the Order of the Eastern Star as Right Worthy Grand Secretary, residing with his wife, Judy (PGM-WV) at the International Headquarters in Washington, DC.
